It also comes with a copy of Audacity (free audio software) to do the actual recording, but the cassette software did not recognize the installed Audacity software. However, it does not work - I was not too surprised about that. ![]() The software comes with the device is supposed to help you make individual MP3s from the tape you are playing. If that's all you wanted, its fine and probably the same as others at that price. It is powered by your computer, unless you go out an buy an AC power block for it (does not come with it). The device is mostly plastic but easy to use, the buttons are clear, the USB connection works fine and the device is recognized by my computer as an audio input device (Win7), and it has a headphone port to use with an external speaker or headphones while you are recording - or just to play cassettes with it. ![]() It is relatively inexpensive, and does what it I wanted. I bought this to convert parts of my cassette tape collection to MP3s.
